Election of Master and Wardens 2016-2017

The Master for the year is Alistair Gregory-Smith.

Alistair and his wife Sally live in Kew, Surrey. They have two sons and a daughter all of whom are members of the livery and five grandchildren. He was educated at Glenalmond. His family have a long standing connection to the Carpenters’ Company having been involved for over 300 years.

Alistair joined the Royal Marines, serving in the Far East and Middle East, before becoming an Aviation insurance broker with Willis Faber & Dumas (now Willis) in the Lloyd’s Insurance Broking Market. In 1973 he joined Towry Law (now Towry) where he spent the rest of his professional life in a variety of advisory and senior management roles.

Alistair recently learnt to fly and holds a PPL. He is passionate about sport, remaining an active tennis player and skier. Alistair has been a lifelong cricket enthusiast and is a member of the MCC, he also rarely misses the chance to watch England play Rugby at Twickenham. Other interests are the theatre and opera. He is a member of the Piscatorial Society.

The Senior Warden for the year is Mrs Rachel Bower, the Middle Warden is His Honour Judge Peter Birts, QC. and the Junior Warden is Lord Howard Flight. The Company’s Clerk is Brigadier Tim Gregson, MBE.
